Operation concludes after injured rock-climber rescued at Blue Mountains, NSW

Emergency services have safely rescued an injured rock-climber following a multi-agency operation in the Blue Mountains.

About 4pm yesterday (Sunday 17 May 2020), emergency services were called to the Point Pilcher Lookout, north of Medlow Bath, after a 57-year-old man fell while rock-climbing with two other men.

The man suffered multiple fractures to his wrist and legs during the fall.

Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command, Police Rescue, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics, attended and launched a rescue operation; however, it was suspended due to poor light.

The injured man and one of his companions sheltered in a cave on the cliff face with rescue personnel overnight.

The operation resumed this morning (Monday 18 May 2020), with the man being extracted safely about 3pm, and taken to Westmead Hospital for further treatment.

The four rescue personnel have also been extracted safely, while the other climbers self-extracted.

Senior police from Blue Mountains Police Area Command would like to commend all parties involved in the successful rescue operation.
