A seizure of methamphetamine was just the tip of the rock, as a Police investigation homed in on a drug supply operation in the Kaipara region.
The Northland Meth Harm Reduction Team has been investigating information about illegal drugs being dealt in the community.
Late last week, a search warrant was executed in Tinopai with the assistance of the Offender Prevention Team.
Senior Constable Mark Stuart says two people of interest in the investigation were located at the address.
“It was a successful search warrant, with a large rock of methamphetamine located at the address, as well as five bottles containing liquid suspected of being GBL,” he says.
Police also located personal use amounts of cocaine and cannabis at the property.
A 43-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman were both arrested and have since appeared in Whangārei District Court.
They have been charged with a slew of drug offences, including possession for supply of methamphetamine and conspiring to deal methamphetamine.
The 43-year-old man alone faces 28 charges, and both have been remanded to reappear in the district court over the coming months.
Senior Constable Stuart says community information continues to play an important role in dealing with methamphetamine harm.
“We continue to applaud those in the community choosing to join us in taking a firm stance against those who are looking to profit off vulnerable communities.”
Northland Police take a comprehensive approach to methamphetamine harm across the district.
“Where we are encountering issues with addiction in our communities, Police are ensuring referrals are being made to connect people to the right services,” Senior Constable Stuart says.
“This includes Te Ara Oranga who supports people and whānau who are impacted by methamphetamine and want to make change, reduce harm for themselves and their whānau and move toward recovery and healing.”
