Detectives from Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch along with officers from the district’s Tactical Crime Squad have charged a man with multiple offences after he allegedly travelled intrastate with quantities of drugs on a domestic aeroplane flight.
The arrest was undertaken as part of Operation Uniform Truro, targeting the movement of drugs towards rural and remote communities via vehicles, air and postal services.
It will be alleged the 29-year-old man travelled from Brisbane to Mount Isa on an afternoon flight on Tuesday April 18 and was detained by officers upon arrival at the airport.
A search of his luggage allegedly located 4.57 kilograms of cannabis and steroidal agents.
On Wednesday April 19, detectives executed a search warrant at the man’s Birkdale residence in Brisbane, where it’s further alleged evidence of drug production, drug possession, and explosive weapons (molotov cocktails) were located.
The 29-year-old Birkdale man has been charged with three counts of supplying dangerous drugs (cocaine, MDMA and cannabis), three counts of possessing dangerous drugs (trenbolone, testosterone enanthate and cannabis) one count each of produce dangerous drugs (cannabis), possessing tainted property, possessing things used in a crime, possession of a category R weapon and possessing utensils.
The man will reappear before the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday June 12.
Mount Isa District Tactical Crime Squad Officer in Charge, Sergeant Joel Bryant, said the arrest will contribute to healing the damage done by the production and supply of dangerous drugs across the region.
‘The community and social harms caused by drug traffickers and suppliers have devastated rural and remote communities,’ Sergeant Bryant said.
‘Mt Isa officers will act on any information that will help us bring drug traffickers and suppliers to justice. We thank the local community who has helped us by coming forward with information.’
