Optus coverage lands at Hamilton Island Airport

Providing coverage for parts of the island for the first time

Optus has switched on a new tower at Hamilton Island Airport, delivering improved coverage and connectivity to the Whitsundays.

The tower will provide enhanced network coverage across the airport and the island.

Optus Territory General Manager for North and Central Queensland Dave Morrissey said, We are continuously looking to increase Optus network coverage footprint outside metropolitan areas and offer real choice and competition for residents, with the new site at Hamilton Island Airport being central to this commitment.

We understand the importance for customers to have strong mobile coverage where they are working, living and travelling and this new site will play a key role in helping to facilitate this across the Whitsundays.

Its also wonderful to be delivering coverage for the first time to the staff accommodation quarters near the Airport, especially as we recognise their efforts and dedication to creating memorable experiences for locals and travellers across the Island.

With Queenslanders taking advantage of travelling within the sunshine state at the moment, we know Hamilton Island will be at the top of many holiday destination lists. Its great to know that for those visiting and working on the Island, the tower will enable them to stay connected with their friends and family through reliable voice and data access.

Tourism Whitsundays Chief Executive Officer Tash Wheeler said better connectivity is excellent for the region.

“The faster guests of The Whitsundays, in the Heart of the Great Barrier Reef, can access reliable connectivity to upload and share their holidays with family and friends, the more people can admire everything the island has to offer. Social media is a powerful tool in creating awareness for The Whitsundays and encouraging followers to book a holiday to our tropical island paradise, she said.

Optus customers can now simply pin their location via a new crowd sourced network platform on Optus website called Network Experience Maps, to raise an issue with the mobile network – such as congestion or an outage for real time investigation. To view the new Network Experience Maps, click here
