Scenic Hill, one of Griffith’s most treasured natural landmarks, is set to undergo future improvements as Griffith City Council begins work on a new Scenic Hill Master Plan and launches community campaign, Our Hill – Ngurambang Murru (Sacred Cultural Country).
Sitting on Wiradjuri Country, Scenic Hill remains a much-loved destination for locals and visitors, offering panoramic views, walking tracks and a natural escape close to the city.
Council staff, Councillors and members of the Scenic Hill Advisory Group Committee recently met on site with the appointed master planner to begin discussions about the future direction of the area.
The visit highlighted both the beauty of Scenic Hill and the challenges it faces, with some areas impacted by litter, vandalism and general wear.
Scenic Hill User Group Committee Chair, Councillor Jenny Ellis said the Master Plan would help guide future improvements while encouraging the community to take pride in protecting the area.
“Scenic Hill is one of Griffith’s most iconic places and it means something different to everyone, whether it is walking, exercising, enjoying the view or simply spending time in nature,” she said.
“The Scenic Hill Master Plan is about creating a long-term vision for the area, including improvements to walking tracks, lookouts and visitor experiences, while protecting its natural character.”
As part of the process, the community is being invited to share what they love most about Scenic Hill and what improvements they would like to see in the future.
The Our Hill campaign is a reminder that caring for Scenic Hill is a shared responsibility, with simple actions such as picking up rubbish, respecting signage and reporting damage helping to protect the site for future generations.
Residents can also view the Scenic Hill precedent study document online, showcasing examples of similar projects and ideas that may help shape the future direction of Scenic Hill.
