Over $6M to local economy from My Territory vouchers

NT Government

Territorians have spent over $6 million at local retail and hospitality venues over the past three months, with the return of a highly-popular business-boosting MyTerritory voucher scheme.

The Territory Labor Government once again partnered with City of Darwin, City of Palmerston, Alice Springs Town Council, Katherine Town Council, Litchfield Council and Barkly Regional Council to encourage local spending and help drive the Territory’s economy.

The popular scheme first launched in 2020 and allows Territorians to register, receive and redeem vouchers via mobile devices to spend at participating locally owned businesses.

The MyDarwin scheme has now closed with the $600 000 of joint-funding now exhausted.

The MyLitchfield scheme opened last week with over 50 local businesses already signed up.

MyPalmerston, MyAlice, MyBarkly and MyKatherine are all still active and open for registration.

Quotes from Minister for Small Business, Paul Kirby:

“This voucher scheme has been a huge hit with Territory shoppers, but it has also proved a driving force in sales for local businesses.

“The MyDarwin Vouchers have seen $3.3 million of economic stimulus and supported over 340 businesses, with over 24,000 participants.

“As we step into the dry season, we’re calling on Territorians from Litchfield, Alice, Palmy, Katherine and the Barkly to register and buy local.”

“We need to keep backing local to keep fuelling our economic comeback, and rebounding from COVID-19.”

Lord Mayor of Darwin City Council, Kon Vatskalis

“This funding was made available at a time when our retail, hospitality and tourism sectors needed it most.”

“The financial assistance provided by City of Darwin and the NT Government helped keep Darwin people employed during a really tough time.”

Mayor of Litchfield Council, Doug Barden

“The past couple of years have been tough for businesses in our community. The My Litchfield voucher program offers an incentive to get out and support the business community in the Litchfield municipality.”
