Since the technology’s rollout on Monday 22 June 2026, the Innovation Division and Metropolitan Districts conducted 77 deployments across 36 locations, in both metropolitan and regional districts.
During those deployments, the technology scanned 905,117 faces, generated 209 alerts and 8 incorrect alerts (0.0009% incorrect alert rate), reflecting a high level of system accuracy.
A total of 114 Registered Sex Offenders (RSO) were identified through Offender Management Division list alerts and were subsequently engaged by officers.

The first regional deployment occurred in Geraldton, between 11 and 12 September 2026. The
operation was undertaken in response to local policing need in the area and presented an opportunity for some regional Western Australians to see the technology first-hand. The regional deployment generated six alerts resulting in one arrest and three Registered Sex Offender engagements.
The OLFR technology was paired with the targeted deployment of police resources and diligent police work. This contributed to additional investigative outcomes beyond the system alerts, including a further two arrests, one summons issued, six move on notices and one infringement issued.
OLFR technology compares facial images against a predefined alert-list, helping officers identify and apprehend individuals wanted for serious offences or those who may pose a risk to themselves or the community. Images of community members who are not on the alert list are automatically pixelated in real time and are not saved. There is no record-keeping of this data.
The WA Police Force remains committed to community safety and will continue to use all available resources, technologies and capabilities to prevent crime, locate wanted offenders, and protect vulnerable members of the community.
Arrests of note:
1. On Wednesday 3 July 2026, a man was due to appear before court in relation to child sex offences. A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest after he failed to appear. About 10.25am, Wednesday 8 July 2026, he was detected by OLFR technology within the Perth CBD. The 78-year-old man from the Great Southern District was arrested and charged with ‘Breach of Bail’.
2. It will be alleged about 4.20pm, Thursday 4 June 2026, several items were stolen from a supermarket on Albany Highway in Cannington. On Wednesday 15 July 2026, a 37-year-old woman from Kewdale was detected by OLFR technology at a shopping centre carpark in East Victoria Park. She was arrested on a warrant which had been outstanding for 426 days and was subsequently charged with ‘Stealing’ and ‘Breach of Bail’.
3. About 12.40pm, Thursday 27 August 2026, a 47-year-old woman from Redcliffe was detected by OLFR technology in Mirrabooka, in relation to an outstanding warrant. She was charged with 20 offences, including seven counts of ‘Gains Benefit by Fraud’ and two counts of ‘Common Assault in Circumstances of Aggravation’. She is due to appear before Perth Magistrates Court on 25 September 2026.
4. About 10.50am, Monday 29 June 2026, a 26-year-old man from Kewdale was detected by OLFR technology in Perth CBD in relation to an outstanding warrant, which had been active for 123 days. A quantity of illicit drugs was seized during the arrest which led police to a further search of a residential premises in Kewdale. The subsequent search resulted in further evidence being seized. The man was charged with drug-related offences and will appear before Perth Magistrates Court on 8 October 2026.
