Pair charged after evading police in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs

Police have charged two women after allegedly evading police in the early hours of this morning.

A grey Holden Commodore and a black Ford Focus were observed by police travelling at an alleged high-speed, north on the Hume Freeway in Wallan, about 1.30am.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicles near Arcadia on the Goulburn Valley Highway before they allegedly sped off.

Tire deflation devices were successfully deployed on the bridge at Seven Creeks near a Shepparton Racing Track.

Both vehicles were followed and intercepted by police on Balaclava Road, Shepparton.

A 28-year-old Wallan woman and a 30-year-old Shepparton woman decamped from their vehicle and were arrested at the scene.

Officers searched the vehicles and located an alleged quantity of drugs and cash.

Officers conducted a search of the Holden sedan and located an unidentified alleged explosive device, which was later deemed safe by the Bomb Response Unit.

There were no reported injuries.

The Shepparton woman has been subsequently charged with:

• Dangerous driving whilst pursued

• Fail to stop on police direction

• Unlicensed driving

• Speed dangerous

• Manner dangerous

• other explosive and driving related offences.

The Wallan woman was charged with:

• Dangerous driving whilst pursued

• Fail to stop on police direction

• Possess DOD

• Drive whilst disqualified

• Speed dangerous

It is expected that the pair will appear before Shepparton Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.
