As a direct response to the experience of recent events, the Riddoch Art Gallery will open a new exhibition called Inside/Out, drawn from the Riddoch Art Gallery Collection. Opening on Thursday 9 July 2020, the exhibition focuses on interior and exterior spaces, and our relationship to them in the wake of the extraordinary precautions brought about by COVID-19 and a global pandemic.
Looking at some of our old favourites, masterpieces really, I have brought together artists working over centuries apart to express something of the strange experiences brought about by COVID-19.

“Never have we been so conscious of the places we eat, sleep, work, learn and socialise, as we sheltered inside our homes, dreaming of the outside world we had taken for granted.”
“I wanted to curate a show that related to how we were all feeling at present or in recent months and to try and capture the tension and rapidly changing relationship between inside and outside spaces that is in some parts universal, but also uniquely of our own backyard,” Ms Wong said.
Featured in this exhibition are recently restored work by Belgian artist, Willem Albract, dating from the late 1800s, early colonial works from the region and other well-known Australian artists, including Indigenous artists from Central Australia.
“As we begin to bounce back and venture from our homes, I’m thrilled to be able to display some of the Riddoch’s Collection for the community to enjoy,” Ms Wong said.
The exhibition will be on display until Sunday 25 October 2020.
