Parcel Theft Prevention Reminder

SA Police are urging the community to take precautions to prevent parcel theft, as online shopping activity increases during mid-year sales.

With more deliveries arriving at homes, unattended parcels can become an easy target for opportunistic thieves. Police are reminding South Australians to take simple, proactive steps to reduce the risk of theft.

Nearly 90 per cent of parcel thefts occur from doorsteps or front porches, highlighting the importance of planning ahead and considering secure delivery options.

To help protect deliveries, community members are encouraged to use parcel lockers, click and collect services, or arrange for items to be delivered to an address where someone will be present. Tracking deliveries and requesting a signature on arrival can also reduce the likelihood of parcels being left unattended.

If you are unable to be home, consider asking a trusted neighbour to collect your delivery, or installing security measures such as a lockable parcel box or home security camera to deter would-be offenders.

These simple steps can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of parcel theft.
