Parramatta’s Movers and Makers art industry event goes digital

Parramatta Artists’ Studios’ (PAS) popular Movers and Makers event will return for another year on Friday 12 June, this time with a new online format.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the annual industry open day for artists and art lovers will be presenting its 2020 program online. The various offerings – ranging from online artworks to virtual tours and live panel discussions – will provide practising and aspiring artists with tips and insights into establishing a career in the arts.

“Parramatta Artists’ Studios is one of our City’s most significant arts and cultural institutions, and it plays a key role in supporting and developing the careers of Western Sydney artists,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

“Although it’s disappointing that people won’t be able to attend the Movers and Makers open day in person this year, the online event will enable a wider audience to participate in the program and experience a small taste of Parramatta’s vibrant arts scene.”

The program content, which is available from 9am on Friday 12 June, features live online panel discussions with leading artists and arts workers from Australia and beyond throughout the day.

It also includes a live-streamed performance by Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran and Liam Benson; a performance video by Linda Brescia; a collaborative performance video by Amol K Patil, Shivanjani Lal and Niccolò Moscatelli; an online resource by Lillian Colgan; and a photo-documentation series by Yana Taylor.

Attendees will be able to take a virtual tour of PAS’s artist studios; listen to a podcast featuring artists discussing their studio practices, and watch a series of videos showcasing artists’ creative processes.
