The work of young Territorians Larissa Vinca Bird, Amon Fry and Donovan Daniels will be showcased at this year’s Parrtjima – A Festival in Light as part of a new youth outreach program introduced to the 2020 event.
The Territory Labor Government partnered with the Alice Springs Public Library to deliver the Parrtjima Outreach Program over the summer school holidays.
Local youth were invited to produce creative designs for some of the Todd Mall lighting effects and staff t-shirts.
Sixteen-year-old Larissa Vinca Bird of Mulga Bore School and 12-year-old Amon Fry of Braitling School won the competition for designing the ‘The Gobo’ lighting effects in Todd Mall, while 12-year-old Papunya School student Donovan Daniels won the design competition for the Parrtjima staff t-shirt.
Each winner will receive an iPad prize pack valued at $973, donated by the Territory Labor Government, Alice Springs Public Library and AGB Events.
Alice Springs will host Parrtjima from Friday 3 April to Sunday 12 April, and this year’s theme is ‘Lifting our Spirits’.
Parrtjima is the only authentic Aboriginal festival of its kind, showcasing the oldest continuous cultures on earth through the newest technology using state of the art lighting effects – all on a 300-million-year-old canvas in the desert.
