Partnership Paves Way for Precinct Progress

Minister for Communities and Housing, Minister for Digital Economy and Minister for the Arts The Honourable Leeanne Enoch

An innovative partnership between the Palaszczuk Government, the education sector and private enterprise will deliver a $7.4 million community hub at Yarrabilba.

Turning the sod today, Minister for Communities and Housing Leeanne Enoch said the hub would help activate the surrounding precinct, boosting the region’s economic recovery as part of Queensland’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan and supporting integrated services.

“Yarrabilba is in a priority development area that, when fully developed, will provide up to 20,000 homes to house a population of up to 50,000 people,” Minister Enoch said.

“The Yarrabilba Community Hub will be an important piece of social infrastructure for this growing region, that will help build community and employment connections, support start-ups, create jobs, and support the local economy.

“It is a great example of the Queensland Government and Logan City Council collaborating with private enterprise and the education sector to support the community.

“This multi-sector approach demonstrates how working together more innovatively can deliver real benefits.”

The hub – to be built on Basalt Drive between the Yarrabilba State Secondary College and San Damiano College – is a joint venture between the Queensland Government, Logan City Council, Brisbane Catholic Education and Lendlease.

Member for Logan Linus Power said the Queensland Government played a vital role in bringing together all the parties to plan the design, delivery and operation of the centre that will support integrated services in one location.

“The hub will create 22 construction jobs, support supply chains and once operational, provide services that support community well-being and the development of new skills,” Mr Power said.

“We want the young people of Yarrabilba to tap into the world of opportunities that are coming our way, with Brisbane hosting the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and our focus on becoming a renewables and hydrogen superpower.

“The Palaszczuk Government has already put in place the Yarrabilba Family and Community Place, and recently unlocked a further 2,000 lots and delivered $15 million for infrastructure for a new primary school site and roads.

“The hub will be another vital building block in this exciting new community.

“As we’ve also demonstrated through our Community Infrastructure Investment Partnerships, we are committed to a collaborative approach to building resilient connected communities by supporting improved social infrastructure and services.”

Construction began today and is expected to be completed mid next year.
