Passenger dies after crash in Figtree

A woman has died in hospital following a serious two-vehicle crash in Figtree last week.

Just after 4.30pm on Wednesday 11 November 2020, emergency services were called to Nebo Drive near Walang Avenue, after reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Police have been told a Toyota Aurion and Toyota Corolla collided, before the Aurion continued travelling and crashed into a tree.

The driver of the Aurion, a 96-year-old man, was taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of suspected rib fractures and mandatory testing.

His passenger, a 94-year-old woman, was airlifted to St George Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, where she died yesterday (Wednesday 18 November 2020).

The driver of the Corolla was taken to Wollongong Hospital for observation and has since been released.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing by officers from Wollongong Police District.
