The Territory Labor Government has today launched a Rural Generalist Training Pathway to provide an exciting foundation training opportunity for a general medical career path in the Territory.
Rural generalists are specialised GPs who bring a broad set of advanced skills and services to Territorians living in rural and remote communities.
The pathway supports doctors in training with targeted learning and development opportunities in addition to relevant clinical experience to gain the skills required to become rural generalists.
It forms part of a national strategy to bolster access to primary health care and ensure rural generalists are trained, recognised and resourced to meet the critical health needs of rural and remote Australians.
The list of potential advanced skills subspecialisations in rural generalist training is extensive and includes well-established programs in anaesthetics, emergency medicine, obstetrics and Aboriginal Health.
To coincide with the launch NT Health has worked with partners to develop a new website to promote and inform junior doctors about options to navigate the training pathway and career opportunities available in the Territory.
