Pedestrian critical after being hit by car at Sawtell, NSW

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was hit by a car south of Coffs Harbour overnight.

About 7.50pm (Thursday 17 June 2021), emergency services were called to the intersection of First Avenue and Bridge Street, Sawtell, after reports a man had been hit by a Toyota Corolla travelling south.

The driver – a 45-year-old woman – stopped to render assistance prior to NSW Ambulance paramedics arrival.

The 43-year-old man was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus for mandatory blood and urine testing.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced by officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District and the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.

As inquiries continue, anyone who may have dashcam footage or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to come forward.
