Pedestrian injured after being struck by car, NSW

A man has suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs overnight.

Just before 8.30pm (Tuesday 19 May 2020), emergency services were called to New South Head Road, Rose Bay, after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a Mercedes E250 while crossing the road at the intersection of Dumaresq Road.

Officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics, who treated an 82-year-old man for serious head and leg injuries.

The man was airlifted to St Vincent’s Hospital where he remains under observation in intensive care.

The Mercedes driver, a 72-year-old man, was taken to hospital to undergo mandatory testing and is assisting police with inquiries.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.

New South Head Road was reduced to a single lane each way for approximately two hours.
