Pedestrian struck by car; man charged with high-range PCA in Haymarket

A man has been charged with drink driving after a pedestrian was allegedly struck by a car in Sydney overnight.

Around 2.55am (Thursday 21 May 2020), emergency services were called to the intersection of Ultimo Road and Quay Street, Haymarket, after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a BMW while crossing the road.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the BMW – a 26-year-old man – was arrested at the scene by officers from Sydney City Police Area Command after allegedly refusing to participate in a roadside breath test.

He was taken to Day Street Police Station where a breath analysis allegedly returned a reading of 0.216.

The man was charged with drive with high range PCA and negligent driving.

He was refused bail to appear before Central Local Court today (Thursday 21 May 2020).
