Pet dog dies after dog attack in Jacana

Police are investigating a dog attack in Jacana on Thursday, 19 May.

Investigators have been told a man was walking his dog at the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail when two off-leash dogs approached him about 5.45pm.

The two dogs attacked the victim and his dog, ‘Kevy’ a 15-year-old poodle x cavalier, who sadly died as a result of its injuries.

His owner, a 30-year-old man, sustained injuries which subsequently required stitches to his leg and upper body, along with scratches and bruises.

The two attacking dogs were described as medium build and stocky, possibly pit bulls.

One was black and the other was brown and white.

The man who was with the dogs was perceived to be Middle Eastern in appearance with a medium build, approximately 175cm tall, aged in his late 30s, with short dark hair.

He was wearing a brown jacket.

The victim has told police the owner of the two dogs attempted to hit the animals with a stick, to stop them from attacking.

Investigators have released images of ‘Kevy’ and the stick, which was left at the scene.

Police are appealing for any witnesses around the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail area at the time of the incident, and any information that may assist in identifying the owner and his two dogs.
