CFA in conjunction with Mitchell Shire Council and local brigades will be conducting a Planned Ecological Burn to control Phalaris in the Rupert St Reserve, 40 Rupert St, Broadford.

This work will involve crews using wet control lines and controlled fire over an area of 0.2ha

Why is the burn happening?

The fuel reduction burn will reduce the amount of vegetation and control the abundance of introduced grass species (Phalaris).

What are the benefits of this burn?

The reduction of introduced species will reduce the intensity and rate of spread of a fire in the area. Many native grasses, wildflowers and shrubs will benefit from this burn. There will be minimal impact on native animals.

When will the burn take place?

The burn is scheduled to take place on Friday 29 November as conditions will be favourable. The area has been sprayed and a controlled burn will remove the dead vegetation. The burn will be ignited sometime between 7.30pm and 8.00pm and will take approximately one hour to complete.
