Port Phillip Council is reminding residents and visitors that the annual St Kilda Foreshore alcohol ban returns tomorrow.
Alcohol is banned along the St Kilda Foreshore all summer (1 November-31 March). Beach and foreshore reserves from Langridge Street to Thackeray Street are included in the ban.
People can still enjoy drinking responsibly on foreshore areas outside St Kilda, between 12 pm and 8 pm, except when bans apply across the City on key public holiday periods.
City of Port Phillip CEO Peter Smith said the St Kilda alcohol ban had proven successful in helping keep St Kilda clean and safe over the busy summer season, with much less litter collected after it was implemented several years ago.
“We are asking everyone to Play it Safe, whether it’s observing the alcohol ban and not leaving litter behind to following COVID-19 rules,” Mr Smith said.
“We want everyone, including our traders, to have a safe and successful summer. This means we all have to play our part when enjoying our City’s popular parks and beaches.
“So if you’re planning on a trip to the beach, throw in a bottle of hand sanitiser along with your mask, sunscreen, towel and hat.”
Port Phillip Council has arranged for extra rubbish bins, bin collections and beach cleans all summer.
A trial of physical distancing circles at the South Beach Reserve, St Kilda, is continuing and Council is finalising its summer management program.
Victoria Police is enforcing the St Kilda Foreshore alcohol ban, which carries a $200 fine.

There will be a total alcohol ban in all public places in Port Phillip including beaches, parks and streets, on Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and Australia Day.
A 24-hour ban on alcohol on all Port Phillip streets and footpaths already exists.
Glass is never allowed on beaches and foreshore parks and reserves.
