Playscape and walking track plans for Wattle Park move forward

Parks Victoria

Visitors to Wattle Park are one step closer to seeing a new playscape, walking/ running track and upgrades to the park picnic area, with Parks Victoria now seeking tender submissions for the construction of these new exciting additions to the Burwood park.

The project involves building a nature-based play area for children and families of all ages, and abilities. It features swings, spinners, water play, a sensory garden and a tram fort to maintain the legacy of the tram history at the existing playground at Wattle Park.

In addition, the project will see the development of a 3.25 kilometre walking and running track which will provide visitors with a purpose-built track featuring natural forest and undulating hill terrain. The project also involves upgrading and improving connections to the existing trails within the park.

Wattle Park will also receive improvements to Monsborough Drive road and carpark, the picnic area and existing trails as part of this program of works.

This project is being made possible thanks to a $4.3 million investment from the Victorian Government as part of the $154 million Suburban Parks Program and additional funds made available through the $21 million Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program.

The designs for the playscape and track have been developed in consultation with the community, with the draft designs shared with the community for feedback in June 2021. Parks Victoria is now using the community feedback to finalise the designs, which will be shared with the public later this year.

Construction is expected to commence in early 2022, subject to on-ground conditions and any public health restrictions in place.
