PM onboard our bid to make history

Peter Gutwein,Premier

We welcome support from the highest level in the country with the Prime Minister’s endorsement today of Tasmania’s bid to make history and host the fifth Ashes test in Hobart.

As the PM said, it would be great to see Tasmania share in the Ashes, particularly as the scheduled test match between Australia and Afghanistan had to be called off.

There is no doubt that Tasmania has the strongest case to host the game, and Cricket Australia should do the right thing and make history by playing the test in Hobart.

We will be submitting our proposal to Cricket Australia today outlining our strong case, with Tasmania ready to host either a day match or a day/night match.

As I have said, CA should not be seduced by the larger states which have test matches including Ashes test all the time – they should act in the best interests of the country, make history, and award us our first Ashes Test.

We look forward to further discussions in coming days as we continue to press our case to make history.
