Logan police have released CCTV footage and are appealing for information following a spike in break and enters at businesses in Browns Plains in the past month.
Police are currently investigating 23 known reported break-ins at the commercial retail and business precinct around Grand Plaza shopping centre, Westpoint, Village Square, Commerce Drive and Enterprise Drive.
Offenders have been caught on CCTV footage using various instruments to force entry into a number of businesses in the area, along with company vehicles parked in business car parks.
The majority of the offences have occurred in the commercial precinct in and around Grand Plaza shopping centre, in shops and businesses along Grand Plaza and Commerce Drive, Eastern Road and Enterprise Way.
A range of items have been stolen including clothing, cigarettes, mobile phones, computers, tools, money, push bikes and a range of other electrical appliances.
Offences have taken place between 10pm and 6am. Criminals are targeting weak points in shopfronts including glass entry/exit doors at the front and rear of a shop, or windows (such as drive through windows) at takeaway outlets.
Acting Sergeant Scott Behnke said: “It’s abhorrent that these criminals continue to target small businesses in the area, particularly at a time when the businesses and their staff have faced significant difficulties associated with recent COVID-19 limitations.”
“We continue to work with businesses in the area to ensure they safeguard their premises as much as possible, and investigators will continue to look at all avenues to ensure these criminals are caught.”
Investigations are continuing into these offences and other similar incidents. Police further urge businesses to be vigilant in security of their respective premises, and to share information about suspicious activity and CCTV footage with police and fellow business owners / body corporate.
