Police appeal for information after investigation into extortion in Strathfield

Auburn Police Area Command detectives are appealing for information as they continue to investigate an attempt to extort money from a family in Strathfield earlier this year.

Police will allege that on Tuesday 27 April 2021, two men attended a house in Chalmers Road and demanded the homeowner hand over a large amount of cash.

Police have been told the men threatened the homeowner if they did not comply with their demands.

It is further alleged the homeowner received two phone calls from a male the following day again threatening him and demanding money.

The incidents were reported to Auburn police and an investigation commenced.

Following inquiries, investigators arrested a 31-year-old man at Rosebery on Monday 3 May 2021. He was charged with demand property by force in company with intent to steal and three warrants.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Burwood Local Court on 29 June 2021.

Investigations are continuing into the identity of the second man. He is described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, about 170cm tall with a thin build and short black hair.
