Police appeal for witnesses after Niddrie motorbike crash

Police and emergency services responded to reports of a single motorbike crash in Niddrie last night.

Investigators attempted to intercept a motorbike on the Tullamarine Freeway near Bulla Road about 9.15pm.

The rider failed to pullover and police did not pursue the motorbike.

About 5 minutes later, police received reports that a motorbike had crashed on the Calder Freeway near the Milleara Road off ramp.

Police attended the scene and believe it was the same motorbike who had failed to stop when they attempted to intercept him a few minutes earlier.

The male rider, a 53-year-old Craigieburn man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police are appealing for anyone who was travelling on the Tullamarine Freeway or Calder Freeway between 9.10pm and 9.20pm who may have seen the motorbike or who has dash-cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
