Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a man was assaulted in Prahran this morning.
Investigators have been told the victim was walking through a park on Sydney Street when he was set upon by two men and two woman who attempted to steal his wallet about 3.45am.
During the incident, the 27-year-old Melbourne man sustained a serious head injury after he was struck with a weapon.
The four offenders fled in a late model, dark-coloured four-wheel drive while the victim attended a near-by hospital.
