Police are investigating following a serious collision in Little River this morning (22 September).
Investigators understand a ute travelling Geelong-bound on the Princes Freeway collided with the rear of a stationary semi-trailer about 6.40am.
The collision occurred about 2km east of the Little River Road exit.
The driver of the ute, a 50-year-old Werribee man, was taken to hospital by air ambulance in a serious but stable condition.
The driver of the semi-trailer remained at the scene to assist.
Road Policing Command Acting Assistant Commissioner John Fitzpatrick wants to remind drivers the importance of staying alert and aware of changing traffic conditions.
“When people get behind the wheel a car, I ask they go back to basics. Drive to the conditions, be courteous of others and stay alert to changing traffic flow in and around the checkpoint locations,” A/AC Fitzpatrick said.
“We know that if someone is waiting in heavier traffic for extended periods of time, they may be prone to getting distracted.
“I ask that you focus your attention to the task at hand and keep anything that may be a distraction out of reach.”
