Police arrest driver after pursuit at Salisbury Park

A driver was arrested after crashing into another car while allegedly trying to evade police at Salisbury Park this morning.

Police spotted the black Nissan ute with unassigned registration plates just after 10am on Thursday 28 December and attempted to pull it over on Main North Road, Salisbury Heights.

The ute did not stop and continued to travel onto Park Terrace, Salisbury. The ute travelled through backstreets before crashing into another vehicle at the intersection of Saints Road and Main North Road just before 10.15am.

The driver attempted to run from the vehicle but was swiftly apprehended by patrols.

The 35-year-old Elizabeth Park man was arrested and charged with dangerous driving to escape police pursuit, failing to stop at the scene of a crash, and driving while disqualified, unregistered, uninsured and with unassigned plates. He will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at the earliest opportunity, most likely tomorrow.

The 19-year-old female driver of the other car, a silver Mazda sedan, and the 25-year-old female passenger in the Nissan ute were not injured in the collision.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

A third vehicle, a white Nissan Patrol, was stationary at the lights and was struck by the Mazda as a result of the collision. The vehicle sustained very minor damage and the two occupants, a 37-year-old driver and her 12-year-old passenger, were not injured.

Investigations are continuing.
