Police arrest man after attempted carjacking and theft in Cheltenham

Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged attempted carjacking and theft at a shopping centre in Cheltenham.

It is alleged the man approached a woman after she parked her Audi Q3 in a car park on Nepean Highway around 10.20am on Monday, 18 July.

After the woman exited the vehicle, the man allegedly entered the driver’s seat and demanded she hand over her keys.

When the woman refused to hand over the keys, the man allegedly threatened to stab her, and the woman screamed and ran from the scene.

Investigators arrested the man at a home in Frankston the following day, and $3,000 worth of allegedly stolen clothing was located at the property.

It is believed the items of clothing were stolen from the shopping centre in Cheltenham in recent weeks.

The 31-year-old Frankston man has been charged with attempted carjacking, attempted theft of motor vehicle and threats to inflict serious injury.

He was remanded to appear before Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on 10 August.
