Police Arrest Man After Death Of Woman – Mole River

A man is in custody after the death of a woman in the state’s north.

About 9.35pm on Saturday 19 September 2026, police were called to a property on Ironbark Road, Mole River – about 40 minutes west of Tenterfield – following reports of a domestic violence incident.

On arrival, officers attached to New England Police District were told a 37-year-old man had entered a property and attempted to steal a vehicle before assaulting the homeowner, a 74-year-old man.

Police arrested the 37-year-old before attending the neighbouring property, where they located a body – believed to be that of a 70-year-old woman.

She is yet to be formally identified.

A house on the property had also been partially damaged by fire.

Police have established crime scenes at both locations and commenced an investigation with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
