The team behind the operational readiness and safe opening of the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre (LVCC) were recognised at the 2026 Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) Commissioner’s Awards for Excellence in Brisbane today (3 November 2026).
The annual QCS Commissioner’s Awards for Excellence celebrate officers who have gone above and beyond to restore community safety, reduce reoffending through rehabilitation, support safer workplaces and build stronger community partnerships.
The LVCC Commissioning Team was awarded the Commissioner’s Award for Excellence in Delivery in recognition of its work to deliver LVCC, which achieved practical completion on 24 July 2025. The team was congratulated for its efforts to fast-track the opening to deliver more correctional capacity.
Deputy General Manager of the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre, Superintendent Evie Georgas ACM, received the Minister’s Award for Excellence for her leadership and commitment to the centre’s operational readiness and fast-tracked safe opening in September 2025.

Presenting the award to Superintendent Georgas, the Minister for Corrective Services Laura Gerber MP praised her integrity and dedication to delivering effective corrective services for almost three decades.
“Evie has earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues through her leadership, attention to detail and the commitment she shows every day to getting the job done,” Minister Gerber said.
“She played an instrumental role in one of the most significant milestones for Queensland’s correctional system, the commissioning of the new Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre, where she worked within an accelerated timeframe to open the centre safety and securely.
“I congratulate Evie on this very special recognition, and the broader Lockyer Valley team who showed professionalism and commitment throughout this complex program of work.”
QCS Acting Commissioner Jon Peach said the awards reflected the collective effort of officers and teams across the agency.
“The Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre Commissioning Team brought together expertise from across QCS under the operational leadership of Superintendent Georgas to prepare the centre, its systems and its workforce for operations,” Commissioner Peach said.
“Today’s awards recognise that shared effort and the team’s dedication to safe and effective service delivery.”
