Police arrest man after evade in Altona

Officers from Westgate Highway Patrol have arrested a man and impounded his car after it allegedly drove through a PBT site in Altona on Wednesday evening, 19 March.

The officers were conducting breath tests on Kororoit Creek Road when the VW hatchback approached the site about 10pm.

It is alleged the car slowed before accelerating around the site requiring a police officer to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.

Police attended the registered owner’s home in Truganina where he was arrested about 20 minutes later.

The vehicle was located around the corner from his home shortly after the arrest.

The 19-year-old has since been interviewed and released without charge.

He is expected to be charged at a later date with recklessly expose emergency worker whilst driving, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, drive in a manner dangerous and learner driver driving without supervising driver.

The car was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1006.

Recklessly exposing an emergency worker to risk by driving has a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment.
