Police arrest man after trying to evade police, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a brief pursuit in the eastern suburbs this morning.

Just before 2.20am Monday 28 October police were patrolling in Newton when they attempted to stop a White Ford Fairlane on Montacute Road. The driver allegedly refused to stop speeding away from patrols who pursued.

Minutes later the solo male driver dumped the car on Cresdee Road, Campbelltown, and ran from the scene. Patrols quickly set up cordons and called in police dog PD Zac to assist with the search.

Patrols believed the man was contained within the cordons and stayed at the scene for over three hours. Just before 6am as they were about to return to their normal duties a vigilant member of the public reported that someone was on their roof.

A short time later police arrested the 39-year-old Newton man. He is expected to be charged with engaging in a police pursuit and being unlawfully on premises.
