Police arrest teen after crashing stolen car at Athol Park, South Australia

A teenager was arrested after crashing a stolen car at Athol Park overnight.

At 3.45am on Sunday 5 April, Western District Police were patrolling the Mansfield Park area when a white Hyundai drove past. A quick check of the registration indicated the vehicle had been reported stolen from Christie Downs yesterday afternoon. The patrol alerted other patrols in the area.

An unmarked police car observed the car speeding and driving erratically through the backstreets of Athol Park before the car crashed into a fence on Glenroy Street and the driver ran from the scene.

Police cordoned off the area and called in Police Dog Axe, who quickly located the suspect hiding in the yard of a nearby business.

The 16-year-old boy from Mansfield Park was arrested and charged with illegal use, unlawful possession, possess cannabis and drive unlicensed. He was bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Youth Court on 5 May.
