Police arrest three after evade in Corio

Three people have been arrested and one man is expected to be charged after allegedly evading police in Corio overnight.

The group first came to the attention of police when their car was spotted driving erratically about 12.05am on the Princes Highway.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle in however it failed to stop.

Officers quickly located the vehicle about 12.15am as it had lost a wheel and drove emitting sparks and leaving gauge marks in Bacchus Marsh Road.

Police followed the vehicle and deployed stop sticks in Shannon Avenue near Aberdeen Avenue a short time later.

The three occupants allegedly refused to leave the vehicle and OC spray was deployed in order to subdue the driver, a 19-year-old Colac man.

The driver and his passengers a 21-year-old Gellibrand woman and 20-year-old Corio man were arrested.

The Colac man was remanded in custody due to breach of bail conditions and is expected to be charged with traffic offences including conduct endangering persons, driving while disqualified, evade police and speeding offences.

His car was impounded at a cost of $1115.

The Gellibrand woman and Corio man have been released pending further enquiries.

During the incident, the three were also found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer and were issued a $1652 penalty notice.

The directions by the Chief Health Officer, under the State of Emergency declared in Victoria, have been enacted to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.

The investigation remains ongoing.
