Police have arrested and charged two males following investigations into a public order incident where police were threatened by a group at Claymore earlier this month.
About 6pm on Saturday 14 September 2019, police directed a group of about 40 males – who had gathered to film a video in a carpark behind a shopping complex on Dobell Road – to move on, after having concerns about the large gathering and some of the males drinking alcohol.
Whilst speaking with police, a bottle of beer was thrown towards police by an unknown male. The group left a short time later.
After monitoring the group around Dimeny Park, police then attended the same Dobell Road carpark where some members of the group had gathered before becoming aggressive towards police.
The males, aged between their teens and mid-20s, began allegedly shouting abuse and throwing bottles of beer and lit flares at police.
OC spray was deployed in the direction of the group when a number of males approached and threatened police.
The group dispersed with no injuries to police or damage to police vehicles.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly throwing a lit flare at police, who was released pending further inquiries, and police returned some of the youths home to prevent any further incidents.
Following inquiries by detectives attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command, a 17-year-old Oran Park boy was arrested on Tuesday 17 September 2019, and charged at Campbelltown Police Station with throw missile at police officer at public disorder no actual bodily harm, possess in public place non-firearm for discharging irritant, riot and affray. He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday 14 October 2019.
Further inquiries led to search warrants being executed in Sydney’s south-west this morning (Monday 23 September 2019).
During the search warrants at Glen Alpine and Bradbury, police arrested two 17-year-old boys and took them to Campbelltown Police Station.
The boy arrested at Glen Alpine was charged with throw missile at police officer at public disorder no actual bodily harm (x4), possess in public place non-firearm for discharging irritant, riot, and affray.
The boy arrested at Bradbury was charged with throw missile at police officer at public disorder no actual bodily harm (x2), riot, and affray.
Both were refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Monday 23 September 2019).
