Police arrest two after Middle Park shooting

Two people have been arrested today as part of the Armed Crime squad investigation into a non-fatal shooting in Middle Park last month.

Six warrants were executed this morning at properties in South Melbourne, Tarneit, Truganina and Albion by police from the Armed Crime Squad, Gang Crime Squad, and VIPER Taskforce, along with local police from Southern Metro and North West Metro regions.

A 24-year-old Tarneit man has been interviewed and will be charged with intentionally cause serious injury, prohibited person possess firearm and related offences.

He will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

A 23-year-old Werribee man has been interviewed and will be released pending further enquiries.

Police have also seized a white Hyundai suspected of being used by those involved in the incident.

Today’s arrests follow an incident in Middle Park on 17 August where a 76-year-old man was shot at his home address on Canterbury Road.

Emergency services were called to the property after reports the man was injured when he answered a knock to his front door about 7.50pm.

He sustained a gunshot to his lower body and was conveyed to be hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Two women inside the property at the time, a 72-year-old and a 39-year-old, were not physically injured during the incident.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
