Darebin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged five teenagers after they were caught in an allegedly stolen vehicle in Melbourne’s north this morning.
A 15-year-old Fitzroy boy has been charged with ten offences including two counts of theft of motor vehicle, fail to stop on police request, dangerous driving whilst being pursued, reckless conduct endanger serious injury and drive manner dangerous.
A 14-year-old Epsom boy has been charged with two counts of theft of motor vehicle, three counts of commit indictable offence on bail and theft.
A 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy, both from Long Gully, have been charged with a number of offences including theft of motor vehicle and commit indictable offence on bail.
All four teens will appear before a children’s court this afternoon where remand will be sought.
A 15-year-old Long Gully girl was charged with theft of motor vehicle and bailed to appear before a children’s court a later date.
The charges follow an incident which began on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy where a police vehicle observed an allegedly stolen white Toyota Hilux about 12.30am.
Officers followed the car before successfully deploying stop sticks at the intersection of Bell Street and Cumberland Road in Pascoe Vale South.
Police activated their lights and sirens, but the driver allegedly continued on with three deflated tyres and entered the Tullamarine Freeway.
The car came to a stop on the Moreland road off ramp where five teenagers were arrested inside the car.
Police will allege the Toyota Hilux was stolen from a Thornbury address yesterday.
