Police Charge Four After Serious Assault – Fairy Meadow

Four people have been charged, following a serious assault in the Illawarra last week.

About 10:00pm on Thursday 22 February 2024, two men were sitting on a park bench at a Surf Club on Elliotts Road, Fairy Meadow, when they were approached by three men and a woman.

One man allegedly threatened the two men with a knife, before demanding alcohol, cigarettes and vapes.

A scuffle has ensued, and an 18-year-old man was allegedly punched and kicked in the head.

The group fled the scene towards Elliotts Road through Thomas Dalton Park, Fairy Meadow.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the man for serious head injuries.

He was taken to Wollongong Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and Strike Force McLennan to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, about 2.30pm on Saturday 24 February 2024, police arrested a 23-year-old man on Squires Way, Fairy Meadow.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with grievous bodily harm with Intent, affray, actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

He was refused bail in Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 27 February 2024) and will reappear on Wednesday 17 April 2024.

On Saturday 24 February 2024, a 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl attended Wollongong Police Station separately and were arrested.

The boy was charged with cause grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

The girls was charged with cause grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

They were refused bail, with their matters before the Children’s Court.

Following investigations about 10.30am yesterday (Monday 26 February 2024), officers arrested a 16-year-old boy in Thornleigh.

He was conveyed to Hornsby Police Station and charged with cause grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, actual bodily harm in company and common assault

He was refused bail, with the matters before the Children’s Court.
