Police charge man after assault in Southbank

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man in relation to an alleged assault in Southbank in late March.

The arrest relates to an incident on Flinders Walk on March 28, where a 60-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman were allegedly randomly assaulted by a man and a woman at about 1pm.

It’s also alleged a 23-year-old woman was randomly approached and assaulted by a woman at the same time.

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested a 37-year-old man on the McCrae foreshore this morning.

The 37-year-old man from Rye was taken into custody and has been charged with intentionally and recklessly cause injury, affray, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, common law assault and aggravated assault.

He has been bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 27 April.

Police are continuing to investigate the matter and are making enquiries in relation to the whereabouts of the other alleged co-offender.
