Police charge man after bus driver injured in Burwood

Following a public appeal, police have charged a man after a concrete object was thrown at a bus window, injuring the driver in Sydney’s Inner West last weekend.

About 12.10pm on Saturday (17 October 2020), police were called to Liverpool Road, Burwood, after reports a projectile had been thrown at a bus.

Officers were told the bus had stopped at traffic lights, near the intersection of Burwood Road, when a man approached the front passenger door and began verbally abusing the driver before allegedly throwing a piece of concrete at the window causing it to smash.

The male bus driver sustained minor lacerations to his arm and the man fled.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command commenced an investigation resulting in a 51-year-old Burwood man attending Burwood Police Station about 4.15pm yesterday (Friday 30 October 2020).

He was arrested and charged with common assault and destroy or damage property.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Bail court today (Saturday 31 October 2020).
