Police charge man after crashing into police vehicles after pursuit in North Shore

A man has been charged with multiple offences after crashing his car into police vehicles following a pursuit in Sydney’s north shore last month.

Police will allege in court that, about 5am on Friday 30 October 2020, a Land Rover was seen travelling northbound in the southbound lanes of the Warringah Freeway.

Officers from North Shore Police Area Command attempted to stop the vehicle, however, it failed to pull over and a pursuit was commenced.

A short time later, the Land Rover collided with three police vehicles on Centennial Avenue, Chatswood, and the 32-year-old driver ran from the vehicle before he tripped and fell.

Police approached the man as he got up, and he allegedly struck one of the officers before he was tasered.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man before he was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for assessment; he was later admitted.

Shortly after 9am today (Wednesday 11 November 2020), he was released from hospital into the custody of officers from North Shore Police Area Command.

He was taken to Chatswood Police Station where he was charged with a string of offences including drive recklessly, furiously or at speed or manner dangerous – First Offence (x 2), police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly – first offence (x 3), not stop vehicle when directed to do so (x 3), use/possess or attempt/threaten to use offensive weapon etc to prevent lawful detention/apprehension, and assault police.

He appeared in Manly Local Court today where he was formally refused bail. He will re-appear in the same court on Wednesday 25 November 2020.
