Police charge man after Elsternwick carjacking

A 36-year-old man has been charged following an aggravated carjacking in Elsternwick earlier this week.

Detectives from Southern Metro Crime Team arrested the man yesterday on Saturday 21 December in Dandenong for the alleged incident on 18 December.

He was charged with aggravated carjacking with a firearm, prohibited person in possession of a firearm and failing to comply with his bail conditions.

The Elsternwick man was remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ court later today.

During the alleged carjacking, a 75-year-old woman was approached by the accused while she was seated in her Lexus SUV while parked on the Nepean Highway about 3pm.

The vehicle was recovered on Friday 20 December in Tiverton Drive Mulgrave.

Officers from the Southern Metro Crime Team executed a search warrant at a health facility in Horne Street this morning as part of their ongoing investigation.
