Police charge man after evade in Prahran

A man has been charged following an incident in Prahran this morning.

He was first spotted by police in the allegedly stolen car in Williams Road, Prahran about 3.00am.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle however it sped off.

The vehicle was followed by the airwing for a short time before the driver got out of the car and fled on foot in Griffith Street, Caulfield South.

The Lower Templestowe man was found hiding in a shed by police at the back of a property on Virginia Court a short time later.

He has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, drive in a manner dangerous, handle stolen goods, fail to stop on request and other traffic related and bail offences.

The man will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

Whilst committing the offences, the man was also found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer.

He has been issued a $1652 penalty notice.

The directions by the Chief Health Officer, under the State of Emergency declared in Victoria, have been enacted to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.
