Police charge man after Melbourne stabbing

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged an 18-year-old youth and arrested seven others following a serious stabbing in Melbourne’s CBD last night.

The Wyndham Vale man was charged with intentionally cause serious injury and will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

The charges relate to the alleged stabbing of an 18-year-old man in Federation Square about 11.40pm.

The Safety Beach man was taken to hospital in a critical condition however has since stabilised.

Police arrested seven other male youths last night, aged between 14 and 17, who have today been interviewed and released.

All are expected to be charged on summons with affray.

Parties are believed to be known to each other.
