Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a carjacking in Narre Warren yesterday.
It is alleged a man approached a woman who was standing next to her vehicle on Webb Street and pushed her about 10.30am.
The man allegedly got inside the victim’s car before members of the public stopped him from driving off.
They restrained him until police arrived.
The 23-year-old Dandenong man was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital for assessment under police guard.
He has now been interviewed by detectives and charged with:
- carjacking
- theft of motor vehicle
- common law assault
- aggravated assault
- possess a drug of dependence
- commit indictable offence whilst on bail
He will appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court today.
