Police charge man after North Melbourne armed robbery

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have charged a man following two alleged armed robberies in North Melbourne on Wednesday.

A 29-year-old Flemington man was arrested by police at his Holland Court address about 9.30 this morning.

He was subsequently charged with attempted armed robbery, common law assault, armed robbery, false imprisonment, common law assault, theft and fail to appear on bail.

The man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

The charges relate to an incident where a man allegedly armed with a knife entered a bank on Errol Street and a supermarket on Queensbury Street on Wednesday, 21 June and made demands for cash.

Nothing was stolen from the bank, however a small quantity of cash was taken from the supermarket.

No one was physically injured during the incident.
