Police charge man over domestic violence offences in Marrickville

A man will face court today charged over a break-in and domestic-related assault in Sydney’s Inner West yesterday.

About 1am (Monday 18 May 2020), emergency services were called to a unit on Pile Street, following reports of a domestic violence related assault.

Police have been told a 24-year-old man broke into the unit and assaulted the occupant, a 24-year-old woman, who was known to him.

It’s alleged the man punched and slapped the woman several times and made further threats before fleeing the scene.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for bruising, swelling and a cut to her lip.

About 12pm the same day, officers from Inner West Police Area Command, assisted by the Dog Unit, Redfern Region Enforcement Squad and Operation ODIN, attended a home at Beauchamp Street, Marrickville, and arrested the man.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with contravene AVO, aggravated break and enter w/I inflict ABH, intentionally choke etc person without consent (DV) and trespass.

The Waterloo man was refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court today (Tuesday 19 May 2020).
