Police charge man over historical sexual assault in Erskineville

A man will appear in court today charged following an investigation into an alleged historical sexual assault in Sydney’s Inner West.

In April 2021, officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area received reports regarding the alleged historical sexual assault of a woman in 2012, by a man who was known to her.

Detectives established Strike Force Dorty to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators arrested a 46-year-old man at Newtown Police Station about 9am yesterday (Friday 24 December 2021).

The man was charged with aggravated indecent assault – victim under authority (DV), sexual intercourse without consent (DV), and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted a woman – then aged 35 – between June and September 2012 in Annandale.

It will be further alleged that the man assaulted two other women – then aged 45 and 29 – who were known to him, with a cattle prod, at an event in Leichhardt in 2016.

The Erskineville man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 25 December 2021).
